This post has been a year in the making. Seriously. For the last year I have been trying different dry shampoo to see which ones rise to the greasy challenge. Let’s all be honest here… dry shampoo is life and I’m pretty sure my mom is the only women I know who doesn’t use it. Dry shampoo is not just a lazy thing anymore; it is a women thing!
SOME BACKGROUND
While living in London I realized how great dry shampoo was- the Brit’s know their dry shampoo. And so upon returning to Colorado I was on the hunt for the best the US had to offer. And I found some great ones but in full disclosure nothing comes close the stuff I had in London.
QUALITIES I WAS LOOKING FOR
Okay, to start I want to be clear in how I “rate” a dry shampoo. The most important quality is, clearly, reducing the appearance of oily/greasy hair. Coming in a close second is the need for the dry shampoo to give my hair texture and volume. Greasy hair = flat hair. And the third quality is price. I use dry shampoo at least 4 times per week and I have VERY thick hair so I require a lot of product therefore I go through dry shampoo quickly. So the price needs to be reasonable. I tried my best to use each bottle in it’s entirety (key word there is tried).
Disclaimer: I am not a trained hairdresser and my opinion is based on my own hair.
Also disclaimer: I included pictures of my hair while using each product (some you will have seen if you have been a follower for a while) and some will be new as I never used them. Also, some have been professionally edited making my hair appear better than it is.
MY TOP 5 DRY SHAMPOOS
- NOT YOUR MOTHERS CLEAN FREAK DRY SHAMPOO: this one meets all three criteria. It leaves my hair looking freshly washed, adds volume and is under $6. It is my go-to dry shampoo. Not bad in the aromatic department either.
2. LIVING PROOF PREFECT HAIR DAY DRY SHAMPOO: this one meets 2 out of 3. I love how Living Proof pulls the oils and grease and it give me great volume but the price is on the higher end. Now, if you do not use dry shampoo as frequently or the amount I do then this would be my recommendation.
3. BATISTE DRY SHAMPOO: meets 2 out of 3 of my qualities for a great dry shampoo. I love that this one is reasonably priced. Even after several days this one does a good job of absorbing the oils in my hair. For me it did not add enough volume or texture so I felt like my hair was constantly flat.
4. PUREOLOGY FRESH APPROACH DRY SHAMPOO: runner up for least favorite. So, I like that this one absorbs really well and an added plus is that is better for color treated hair (which mine is). But it is on the more expensive side and it left my hair flat by the end of the day. It was really hard for me to use this multiple days in a row.
5. DRYBAR DETOX DRY SHAMPOO: definitely not my favorite. It really feel flat (pun intended) in all areas. It is on the more expensive end and I did not feel it absorbed the grease very well. Also, I felt it added zero volume. Sorry. I know this is a super popular brand and I REALLY wanted to like it. But for my hair and what I wanted it left my feeling let down.
THOSE DAYS
No matter who you are you use dry shampoo. I mean it nearly saves my life each day as it affords me just a few more minutes in the morning to get my life together; and we all know how precious that time is. Dry shampoo comes to the rescue for those impromptu happy hours or dinner dates when you weren’t planning to leave and didn’t wash your hair. I mean we should really just all hail the inventor of dry shampoo… I mean it is an absolute necessity for me. A true must have.
Let me know if you have any questions about any of these!! And leave me any recommendations and I will gladly continue my research 😉
With Love,
