How many times have you set a goal to get fit? Or to be healthier? I know it is something I have done off and on since I left high school. A little back story- I was a competitive dancer in high school and due to the amount of practice/rehearsal I was just always “in shape”. It wasn’t until later in life that I realized I actually had to work at getting fit and being healthy.
And then, last May, my best friend told me she has been diagnosed with cancer and she was going to undergo major surgery and chemo.
Her journey through cancer was truly what inspired me to get fit. And not just work on being physically fit but as well as mentally fit. In fact I wrote a post about the idea of self care a while back. It is sooo important.
And then just this January my Mother-In-Law was diagnosed with cancer.
If it wasn’t already clear that I needed take my fitness and wellness seriously my MIL’s diagnosis was a reminder. Given that her diagnosis came just one day into the new year it was easy for me to re-commit to my fitness journey. But like so many times before I began to slip. But I am back on track and I wanted to share with you a few ways I keep my fitness and health as a priority.
I Found A Gym & Studio I Love
Honestly, I love the people I workout with. I love walking into the Barre3 studio and the owner say hi and knows me by name. All the instructors are attentive and inspiring. But it took me a few months to find the place I felt the best at. I tried several other studios (I used Class Pass) and some were goo and some were just not for me. But now I am motivated by the fact that there are people who are welcoming and excited to help me meet my fitness goals when I walk in the door.
I See Changes Happening
Let’s be honest. When you look good you feel good. And I am seeing a difference in my body; both in my physical abilities and the way I look. And without sounding self absorbed I am happy with the changes I am seeing. And I feel better. So as I continue to see change I am motivated to continue to get up early to work out, or put my phone down and step into the gym. It feels good to look good. And along with that came a huge attitude change (more on that in another post).
I Allow Myself To Enjoy The Things I Love
Wine. Coffee with cream and sugar. French Fries. Ice Cream. Tortillas. Believe me when I say I love my evening wine and each morning I enjoy a hot cup o’ Joe. Most days I eat a low carbohydrate diet but when I am craving ice cream, french fries, sweet potatoes or toast I eat it. Now, I try not to go overboard and I do work hard at self control. But depriving yourself of every indulgence will lead to more failure than benefit. I am happy when I eat french fries. I know it is not an every day thing… so it feels good and I enjoy life.
Getting fit has become less of a journey and more of a way of life. It has been months since I did an overhaul of my diet, my physically activity and my mental wellness. But I can say it is a still a daily commitment to stay strong. It is a choice. An active choice.
I know if you, too, make the commitment to your fitness and use the three ideas to stick with it you will feel like a superstar. And you deserve to feel like a superstar.
With Love,

What a great reminder that commitment and discipline come from within!

It truly is about the self discipline and commitment to yourself. And that can be hard to do at times, especially as a mother.
