    Learning to Let Go

Letting go isn’t a one time thing, it’s something you have to do everyday, over and over again

Isn’t that the truth.  Everyday we spend a lot of our day letting go of things, or at least we should- sometimes they are big things and sometimes they are just little minor aspects of life.  Letting go of your past- or letting go of the frustration of traffic- or letting go of expectations… all take a lot of practice.  Practice everyday.  Like when I saw these photos I hated them (not the photography, just the subject). Like when I realized it is winter here, in London, and I wasn’t ready for it.  But thank goodness for this amazing hat and cozy scarf.  Or when I think about all the things I am, maybe, missing in Colorado.  But each day I learn to let a  little more go… it truly is very liberating.

shop the look: Dress // Shoes // Scarf // Bracelets // bag //

In life we come across so many opportunities to set an example for others, or even ourselves, to just let it go. Just like the next person I have a ton of pet-peeves… and some REALLY bother me… but each day I am learning to let it go.

Before we continue on letting go we need to address the amazingness of this dress, scarf and shoe combo- something I do not plan to let go of anytime soon.  Sometimes I love to be a little grily and noting says girly like a dress but I also have a toddler… so I wear trainers (translation: sneakers) constantly.  And in case anyone forgot I am also obsessed with camo.  So… I wear camo trainers– duh! These babies are good year round- fall, winter, spring, summer- year round.  And this midi bodycon dress is also a perfect addition to my year round wardrobe.  The color lends itself to the winter months and pairs perfectly with a chunky scarf.  As scaf’s are concerned you can’t really go wrong… can you?? BUT this one is so soft and brightens up any look given the lighter color plus it is ridiculously warm.

These bracelets were individually made by an amazing artist based in Denver.  She custom makes every piece to be as original and unique as you.  Check out her shop here and use coupon code PISHTOPOSH for $5 off all orders over $20 from now until December 20.  Talk about amazing Christmas gifts!!!! This hat was a gift from British Bobble Co and I am obsessed.  Not only is this style 100% on trend it is so soft and never itches my head.  Pick one up ASAP.

    Let it go friends!

Recently I have really been a fan of pairing unlikely combinations together- like this dress and trainers. I mean part of it is practicality and part of it is deciding to do what I want.  I try to think outside the box a bit- I like to keep people on their toes!  It all falls in line with letting it go.. letting go of prescribed fashion rules, of fashion stereotypes and perceptions from others. Wear a dress and sneakers- let it go.  Wear white after labor day- let it go.  Mix black and blue- let it go. In the wake of working on letting it go I have found a lot of space in mind for more positive things- for things that make me happy.  I am able to concentrate on being present in the moment and think about the future in a good light.

Imagine how wonderful it would be if all you worried about was how fabulous you looked????

    Make it a great day,

    With Love,

    ajm

The Landscape of Life with Easy and Versatile Pieces

Is it because I am getting older?  Is it because I live in London?  Or is it because I have finally stepped outside of myself that I have noticed just how amazing the world around me is.  No matter the reason I love the change!  This post is really about how easy versatile pieces can be incorporated  into your wardrobe but we did this shoot in Notting Hill where I was immediately inspired to address my love for the landscape of my life! I, literally mean, my everyday surroundings.  Every time I leave the house I am mesmerized by how beautiful the same common I walk through daily (sometimes three or four times daily) is or just how gorgeous my high street is.  Upon entering a new neighborhood I am in awe of the scenery- the cute little cafe, the sweet children’s store, the beautiful cathedral… just everyday things.

    A Bit of Flare

    Photos: Victoria Metaxas

Shop the Look: Denim // Bell Sleeve Top // Faux Fur Vest <similar> // Booties // Bag // Watch // Bracelet // Bracelet

Everyone is busy.  We all have a to-do list that has more items than can possibly be completed in 24 hours- unless you do not plan to sleep at all- not something I advise.  Everyone has family, friends, work, social and life commitments… and all too often we never stop to think about ourselves- especially those of us that are mama’s.  It feels selfish, unjustified and unnecessary to add “take care of myself” to the to- do list…. but why?  Where have we gone wrong in society that we are not able to put ourselves first?  Where have we gone as parents to believe that we can literally dedicate our entire lives to our children/families?  I am a FIRM believer in ME TIME.

I have come to believe that caring for myself is not self-indulgent.  Caring for myself is an act of survival– Audre Lorde

This quote and this mentality is one I have adopted and whole heartily agree with and practice.  Since moving to London I have found myself spending more and more time alone- with Declan in nursery school and Brendan working- I am left with a bit of time to myself.  At the beginning I would use this time to clean, to run errands, to do laundry, to take care of household chores…. essentially I used this time to complete my to-do list. And then I realized something was lacking in my life… I was feeling a bit empty… I was feeling a bit too much like Mrs. Cleaver….

While I was accomplishing my chores and duties I was not growing as a person, I was not being intellectually stimulated, I was not spending the time to make myself happy… a completed to-do list turned out to not equal happiness.  I needed more.  So I committed to finding the “more” I was craving.  I committed to spending two mornings a month doing something for myself, something that made me think, something that added cultural and diversity into my life, something that allowed me to focus on ensuring I was happy…. In the end it is up to you to make yourself happy.

Lets, briefly, discuss the flare jeans... lets celebrate how amazing they are and how great it is they have come around and are back in style.  I am one who loves comfort and I can honestly say no pair of skinny jeans are as comfortable as these flares… they just can not compare.  Now… I am not trying to re-live the early 2000’s (although sometimes I do love to jam out to N’SYNC and pretend I am in college with no responsibilities)… but I am wearing and loving these flare jeans- I can’t wait to wear them with a nice pair of heels and really dress them up!!!.  Faux Fur.  Enough said.  Wear it.  Love it.  Embrace it. In this look it certainly makes the outfit more polished and refined but this vest is extremely versatile.  This particular vest was my first purchase in Paris, last year, but I have linked <similar> <similar> some others.  H&M is becoming a new go-to for me for some basic essentials and while I was there I saw this white bell sleeve top and it immediately landed in my shopping bag- aren’t the bell sleeves so cute!  Add a plain crew neck sweater over top of this shirt for a fun, different and super sleek look!!   Adding the classic black saddle bag and black booties really completed this outfit and made it easy to wear all day…I went straight to a girls HH after this and it was perfect.

London, for obvious reasons, was the perfect backdrop for my new commitment.  I have explored new neighborhoods, visited amazing exhibits across the city, I have seen and learned so much about the history of the United Kingdom, spent time in incredible museums,  and taken the train to random destinations. I have also started (or went back to) making the effort to look cute… I started wearing clothes that made me feel good… started exploring new fashion trends…  and I started loving my wardrobe.  On “Me Days” I love to get a little bit more dressed up- add a little element of elegance to my everyday- and that was the inspiration behind this shoot.  The backdrop is the beautiful and iconic Victoria and Albert Museum and the outfit incorporates a few fun flares and a touch of classy elegance!

Sometimes my to-do list does not get done and sometimes I am behind on my household chores and sometimes we eat take away food. This change in my life has made such an impact… I am more refreshed- I am more recharged- I am more patient- I am more relaxed- I am happy.

    With Love,

    ajm

    Doing it Together

Marriage is hard… marriage is beautiful… marriage is challenging… marriage is amazing.  The most amazing thing about my marriage is the person on the other side of this union- Brendan.  Now, I promise not to get all sappy and emotional over here but I am going to be real and honest and share a bit about our marriage- I promise it will be truthful, heartfelt and raw… you can decide if that makes it sappy!  Our story is just like anyone else’s- it is full of memories, heartbreak, laughter, tears, victories, celebrations, defeats, love, kindness, compromise, selfishness and selflessness- but our story is not like everyone else’s because it is ours.  We have no road map on how to make it work- sure we have amazing examples in both my parents (married 40 years) and Brendans parents (married 38 years) but we are doing this on our own- we are learning and falling down together- we are getting back up and continuing on together- and that’s just it… we are always and forever doing it TOGETHER.

Shop the Look: Denim // Sweater // Flats // Choker // Bag // Watch // Sunglasses

I was never the one to call Brendan my best friend- in all honesty he never was- he was my husband.  I have a few best friends- I have some regular friends- and Brendan was always labeled as “husband”.  No one else could take that label- no one else could hold that label- so I felt it fitting that he not fall into the label of “friend” as that wasn’t unique enough.  And then we moved to London.  Where I, for better or worse, was left with Brendan being my only friend.  Within the first months of being here I realized Brendan was more than just my husband… that he was my best friend. Not just due to the fact that I didn’t have any other friends (here is the raw part) but because he checked all the boxes of a friend… he listened, he told me shut up when needed, he grounded me, he laughed with me, he cried with me, he drank wine with me, he kept my secrets, he loved me. Simply put Brendan became so much more to me than just my husband… he became my whole world (oh and Declan).  Brendan and I spend a lot of time together… more than most married couples (I imagine) and sometimes more than we both desire… but I am forever indebted to his current company for giving us this opportunity.  With this move to London we have explored (read Full Circle for more), we have traveled (read Organic Floral for more) and we have built an amazing bond that I am certain will withstand the test of time.  Honestly, its like we have been on a never-ending honeymoon… we have found the greatness in each other, we have learned how to overcome the annoying habits (we have no where else to go to avoid them), we have no drama outside our own (and minimal at that), we talk and communicate openly and honestly, we fell back in love (not that we had fallen out).  So… how does this relate to fashion you ask… well good question!

Fashion for me was like my husband being different than a friend- it was a separate part of my life- fashion and my life couldn’t be thought of in the same light- they were different entities- each filling a specific box.  And then I moved to London.  And then I started Pish to Posh… and like my marriage with Brendan I figured out that fashion and my life go together.  Planning an outfit for this post and this shoot was a bit more challenging as I wanted to really capture the essences of fashion and my real life being interchangeable and interwoven… and so I picked basic items that are interchangeable in your wardrobe and that are interwoven into everyday life.  These skinnies <similar> <similar>, if you follow me on Instagram, are a regular- they are comfortable, fashionable and easy to wear-  they go with booties, trainers or flats as seen above.  Obviously, this sweater  <similar><similar> is a winner and one I am obsessed with due to the color and the ability for it to be worn with just about anything- it intertwines into your wardrobe so easily.  I am a sucker for comfy and I am a sucker for studs so when these flats made their way into my life I forever feel in love (just like when I met Brendan and forever fell in love, corny right?!?).  Anyways, the accessories choker, bagwatch and sunnies (currently on sale) are all icing on the cake in terms of the outfit and truly you can pair just about any jewelry, any bag and even add a cute scarf.  Go check out my latest Thursday Three for more ideas on perfect fall accessories to add to your look. Planning and executing easy outfits into my daily life has been a great revelation in my everyday… just like learning that Brendan is so much more than just my husband.

    With Love,

    ajm
